With operations in three states and more than a decade of experience Independent Power Systems offers expert system design, engineering and installation to the Rocky Mountain West and Massachusetts. Our company mission is to provide the highest quality installations using state of the art equipment for the purpose of making this technology the best source for home and business power.

Independent Power Systems was founded in 1996 by Tony Boniface, who had a vision to create a company that provided state-of-the-art renewable energy systems with exceptional design, installation, service and support.

Tony’s fascination with renewable energy began in 1988 when he was camping on Mount Washington and found a solar panel, pumping water. The idea of a clean electricity source, powered by the sun, working efficiently without any visible source of conventional power inspired Tony to study alternative energy. After working for a company specializing in solar PV and hybrid electric systems, and completing his professional engineering license, Tony opened IPS in Bozeman Montana.

IPS has been in business for more than 12 years, and Tony’s original vision is still the driving force behind the variety of projects that IPS has completed. IPS’ areas of expertise include: off-grid, grid-tied, and grid-tied backup solar PV systems; water pumping solar systems; wind towers; and mobile wind and solar systems. IPS has installed over 240 systems. In 2006, Tony expanded to Boulder, CO.

IPS has worked on everything from large commercial buildings to remote wind and solar systems, installing some of the largest and most highly visible PV arrays in the Rocky Mountains, including:

  • 1505 Pearl in Boulder
  • Coor’s Field Scoreboard in Denver
  • The Holiday Neighborhood in Boulder (SunPower Intelegant Award winner)
  • The Bozeman Public Library
  • 1155 Canyon in Boulder
  • the Acme Building in Billings
  • Arby’s Restaurant in Bozeman
  • Montana State Capital Building

IPS is dedicated to finding the right solution for everyone interested in using renewable energy.
