In June of 1986, James A. Ranck established his own electrical contracting company after dedicating over 12 years to the field as an electrician. Along with a partner, the company was founded under the name of Roy & Ranck Electric in Flint, Michigan. After 15 months in business, Jim became the sole owner and changed the company name to J. Ranck Electric and the location to Coleman, Michigan.

Ranck Electric and the location to Coleman, Michigan. The staff included one estimator, one administrative assistant and Jim as the sole project manager. Early projects included the Bay City Mall, Graff Chevrolet's Bay City dealership and the Marathon Gas Plant in West Branch, Michigan.
