S-Energy partners with Signal in US

S-Energy America announced that it has partnered with Signal Energy for design and engineering services to install 100 megawatts of solar photovoltaic panels in North America.

While S-Energy, which used to be part of Samsung, has been making solar modules for over 20 years, it’s jut recently developing its utility-scale and large-scale commercial business in the United States.

Signal will serve as S-Energy’s preferred provider of engineering, procurement and construction, according to the companies’ new preferred provider agreement.

"Working with proven and familiar partners, such as Signal Energy, will allow us to expedite our growth in North America and reallocate our resources wisely," said David Yoo, General Manager of S-Energy America.

The multi-year agreement starts with the 4.8-megawatt Green Acres Solar facility in Elk Grove, Calif., which S-Energy will own.

The projects is S-Energy’s first utility-scale venture in the United States, though the company’s panels have been used for residential and commercial installations for years.

“We are aggressively expanding our utility-scale business in the USA,” Yoo said. “And the Green Acres Solar Facility in Sacramento is the first example of that."

Green Acres is the first of what S-Energy hopes will quickly become 100 megawatts of major projects in partnership with Signal.

"We have an initial goal of 100 MW of utility scale projects. It's a benchmark, not necessarily a magic number,” Yoo said. “We hope to exceed that amount.”

The company is pursuing that benchmark at the same time it searches for a location for a 100-megawatt module assembly facility in the US, Yoo said. The two ventures are not tied to each other, he said. But they both represent a plan for growth in the US and North American market.

S-Energy currently has more than 400 megawatts of solar projects in progress around the world, including 65 megawatts of solar photovoltaic projects in the US.
