Owensboro Municipal Utilities
Since 1900, Owensboro Municipal Utilities has delivered water and electricity to the citizens of Owensboro. In 1997, the locally-owned and operated utility began offering Internet services to commercial customers. In 2014, OMU began to offer telephone service to direct internet (fiber) customers.
OMU is the largest municipal electric and water system in Kentucky with more than 26,000 electric, 24,000 water and 160 telecommunications customers.
OMU takes pride in being a municipally-owned utility. Our employees are active in the community, involved in everything from coaching little league baseball to serving on the boards of various vital non-profit agencies in Owensboro-Daviess County.
OMU is overseen by a five-member Owensboro Utility Commission which is appointed by the mayor of Owensboro. Members serve three-year staggered terms. The commission meets in open session on the third Thursday of each month in the third floor boardroom of the Customer Service Center at 2070 Tamarack Road.
