LDK Solar Reaches 3 GW Wafer Production Capacity

LDK Solar Co. Ltd., the world’s leading crystalline wafer producer announced December 28, 2010 that they have reached a 3 GW annual wafer production capacity.

Manufacturers of polysilicon, mono and multi-crystalline ingots, wafers, modules and cells, LDK also engages in project development activities in selected segments of the PV market. By offering such a broad range of solar technology products, LDK is already an industry leader. With the coming of their milestone wafer production capacity LDK has made a bold statement to the solar community that they are here to stay, and don’t plan on going anywhere anytime soon.

To celebrate the accomplishment LDK’s Founder, Chairman and CEO Mr. Xiaofeng Peng, hosted an official ceremony at the company’s main headquarters in Xinyu City, Jiangxi Province in the People's Republic of China.

“As the world's leading wafer production company we are pleased to achieve this milestone,” said Mr. Peng at the ceremony according to a press release on the company’s website. He added, “This achievement positions the Company to continue to capitalize on the demand for its PV products.”

Solar wafers are the thinly sliced semiconductors traditionally made of silicon crystal that function as a substrate for PV solar devices.
