In July 2008, Pennsylvania enacted a broad $650 million alternative energy bill designed to provide support for a variety of renewable energy and energy efficiency technologies. Included in this legislation was a provision authorizing the creation of a $25 million grant and loan program for wind and geothermal energy technologies. The program is jointly administered by the Department of Community and Economic Development (DCED) and the Department of Environmental Protection (DEP), under the direction of Commonwealth Finance Authority (CFA). The New York State Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) has created a Wind Energy Guidebook to provide information on various aspects of wind energy development and to help communities that are interested in wind energy development prepare for the issues that they might encounter. The guidebook contains information and resources to support local governments managing land-based wind energy development in their communities. The guidebook’s chapters address important aspects of wind energy project siting, including environmental considerations, community impacts, permitting information, and other key topics.

Consumers Energy residential electric customers are eligible to apply for a variety of rebates on energy efficient equipment. Customers must install equipment in the Consumers Energy service area and receive electric service from Consumers Energy for the appliance purchased. Consumers Energy may verify sales transactions and that installed energy-saving measures meet all applicable building codes, zoning laws, local, state, and federal requirements. A contractor’s invoice itemizing the purchased equipment and indicating type, make, model, price, serial numbers, and date of purchase must accompany each Consumers Energy Incentive Request Form.

DTE offers a variety of rebates for its electric service customers. These include heat pumps, air conditioning, lighting, insulation, and select appliances. Find a participating contractor who will come to your home with information about equipment that qualifies for rebates. Verdigris Valley Electric Cooperative (VVEC) offers rebates for residential customers who purchase energy efficient home equipment. Rebates are available for window air conditioners, electric water heaters, smart thermostats, electric vehicle charging stations, and heat pumps. All equipment must be Energy Star rated, and meet certain energy efficiency standards listed on the program web site.

Rebate applications must be sent within 90 days of equipment installation. Contact VVEC for more information on this program.

Oklahoma Energy Cooperative (OEC) offers rebates to residential customers for the purchase of air-source components, products and energy-efficient design.

City of Shasta Lake Electric Utility is providing rebates to their customers for the purchase of photovoltaic (PV) systems. The rebate levels will decrease annually over the life of the program. Interested customers should contact Efficiency Services for more information.

Empire Electric Association and its wholesale power supplier Tri-State Generation and Transmission Association pay incentives to residential members purchase and install qualifying Energy Star® appliances, outdoor electric equipment, or electric vehicle chargers. 

Credit must be requested within 90 days of purchase.

For individuals building new homes, Efficiency Vermont offers free technical assistance and targeted rebates to help ensure new homes are built as energy efficient as possible. The first step is to enroll in the Residential New Construction program. Upon enrollment, Efficiency Vermont will review building plans and go over designs to determine estimated energy costs for heating, cooling, hot water, lighting, and appliances. Efficiency Vermont will recommend ways to lower those costs and help the homeowner choose proper energy-efficient equipment, lighting, and appliances.
